Robotics in model making handicrafts The fast paced digital development, mainly in the fields of CAD-CAM-CNC and 3D printing techniques, has recently revolutionized the classical model making. Within the last 23 years, werk5 has regularly integrated these techniques into the daily routine and work process. Nowadays werk5 implements robotics in order to realize new approaches and solutions for digital model making. Robotics complete the current digital processing chain of CAD planning and mechanical production by adding assembly to it: precise assembly, multi-sided machining of highly complex geometries, sorting out etc, and even a collaborative assembly combining manpower and machine. In a joint research project with the TU Berlin (faculty of mathematics), werk5 develops a robot-aided assembly procedure, based on the sensitive characteristics of a KUKA iiwa LBR (7 axis). (Research program: ZIM, supported by the 'Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie (BMWi) on account of a resolution by the 'Deutschen Bundestages) Simultaneously, a second 6-axis-robot-arm is integrated into the mechanical working procedure and adds – among others - the possibilities of cutting, polishing, grinding, engraving etc
